Now that something may be empty space, it may be drywall, it may be glass fronted cabinet doors or it may be additional open shelving… but it’s something. My next thought was to use crown molding to help visually fill in the space.

And while we did use crown molding, and i really like the finished look it gives the kitchen, i didn’t pick molding nearly tall enough to make a difference in that space above the cabinets. If the gap is directly above your range, it is going to get a little messy regardless of how good your ventilation is.
